Frequently Asked Questions for ESA Families
Some families may not be familiar with Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program. The ESA program provides eligible students with state‑funded education dollars that families can use to customize their child’s learning experience. Instead of those funds being directed to a public school, the money is deposited into an account that parents can use for approved educational expenses.
Importantly, ESA funds can be applied to the school of your choice in Arizona—whether that is a private school, microschool, homeschool program, or another qualifying educational option. This flexibility allows families to select the environment that best supports their child’s needs and learning style.
Can ESA funds be used to pay tuition?
Yes. Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program allows families to use funds for private school tuition, educational services, and specialized instruction.
How much ESA funding do blind students typically receive?
Students with visual impairments often receive higher ESA award amounts because of their eligibility category. The exact amount varies by grade level and classification. Here is a link to the current chart: ESA FUNDING CHART 2025-26
Can ESA cover the full tuition?
Yes, ESA funding should cover the full tuition. If it does not, we will work with you to identify scholarships or additional funding.
Do students still receive specialized services?
Yes. Our program focuses on the specialized skills blind students need, including braille literacy, assistive technology, orientation and mobility, and independence training.
Do students need to have an IEP to qualify for ESA?
No, but students with IEPs qualify for higher amounts of ESA dollars than students without IEPs. In order to qualify for this funding, students must have been enrolled in public school for at least 45 days as a full-time student, and must have a current IEP or MET/Evaluation report or 504 plan from an Arizona public school.
How do I apply?
Families can begin by filling out our interest form. We will help walk you through both our admissions process and steps to apply for ESA if needed.
